Blog 7 – Looking forward to ECFC’s Carol Service

O Come let us adore Him

Our Christmas carols have some of the most amazing lines of awe and wonder in them, I wonder which ones have stood out to you over the years and which ones you are noticing as you think about the words you sing this Christmas? Last time Debs reflected on her role as Chaplain. This time Anna (Children’s Pastor) suggested using the lines of carols in this Christmas blog. Here are few of my favorite lines with personal reflections prompted by life at ECFC.

Don’t forget the opportunity to join in with the carols and dress up at this Sunday’s ECFC nativity and carol service..

O Come let us adore Him…

How are we taking time to adore Our Lord in this Advent season that can become so busy and rushed?

He came down to Earth from Heaven

Recently I have been pondering what Jesus knew of his divine self. Was baby Jesus aware he was God, as he appears to be in some famous paintings?

Born that man no more may die

One thing we are sure of is that His life was given as a gift to us. Jesus’ death would be a lasting gift to all humanity. To each one of us He gifted new life, the hope of something more beyond our death – it is mind blowing that a fully human God gives to each one of us this gift.

O tidings of comfort and Joy

At ECFC we have joy and celebration of connection… how might we offer comfort to each other… in our limitations how might we be there for each other?

To us a gift is given

Last year a beautiful Christmas tree and decorations turned up unannounced at ECFC. It was gift by Bridges for Communities (an organisation hiring office space at ECFC). It was both a complete surprise and a favourate moment of the year. It was inspiring that the hand sewn decorations were designed and made in a sewing class Bridges ran for refugees with such beautiful and meaningful decorations created.

One morning last week Clare (Baraka Cafe Manger), turned up with poinsettias for the cafe tables and a suggestion that we get a Christmas tree again for the cafe. We now have a tree in Baraka Café to which people have been adding decorations left by the tree…feel free to join in using the decorations there or bring your own.

Merry Christmas – let’s continue to pray that we can replicate the generosity of Jesus in our lives. Pray that we can accept what we are given, give what we have to give and be thankful that we can praise Him…O come let us adore Him.
